Balance, Engineering -

So, let’s talk about BALANCE... When it comes to Life, Mother Nature, or the world of physics, balance is the key. Balance is what keeps the earth spinning, the sun from burning, the ice from melting, the animals feeding, and life moving forward in general. Balance is what keeps lions and grizzlies from taking over the planet, and the lack of it is what killed the dinosaurs. When it comes to balance, it just works...it works on your home finances, in relationships, and in running this great country. Balance keeps us all in check, and so it does with the...

In an early post talking about 304 Stainless Steel, we discussed toughness, corrosion resistance, and long term wear characteristics. 304 Stainless is considered the top choice for the medical and marine industries, and it is the material of choice for every structural-strength component in the Squatch USA Crusher...except one, the Thumb Screw. The Thumb Screw is the primary link between the operator’s hands and the rest of the crushing unit. This single component is basically the only thing that ALLOWS you to crush a can, split a piece of wood, or cut a baker-stack of steak fries. This tiny 1/4”...

When developing Squatch USA Crushers, one of the first things considered were the materials. Due to the extremely wide range of application areas of the end product, there were several factors to take into consideration...cost, durability, corrosion resistance, FDA approval rating, machinability, aesthetic appeal, availability, weight, and strength. All things considered, 304 Stainless Steel became the go to material for all load bearing components...handle extension, T handle, bearing rods, pins, and bolts. In fact, 304 SS was used for every heavy steel component accept the thumb screw on the consumer version of the product (we will talk about that one...

In developing the design elements for the Squatch USA Crusher, we have pulled from our 32 years of experience working in over 2,000 factories worldwide. There are pieces from the aerospace and performance automotive side of what we do shown in the design, as well as pieces from the medical and firearms industries. The pictures below share a close look at a mix of engineering experience and an ode to the designer’s favorite Browning shotgun...the Belgium made A500 gas model 12 gauge. The handle receiver on the Squatch Crusher joins the beauty and fashion of classic Americana with the fit...

Squatch Crushers are CNC machined from solid bars of 6061 Aircraft Aluminum. After leaving the machines, parts are tumbled for 30 minutes in a critical acidic solution and media that both etches the parts and work hardens the outer layer, while leaving all surfaces free of debris and burs. The final step before assembly is anodization. That’s right, every piece is clear anodized just like the parts you see under the hood of your favorite NASCAR, dragster, or super-stock funny car. Anodizing Aluminum helps protect the material from corrosion and oxidation, keeping it looking good for years down the road....
